Letter from Syria regarding the airstrikes carried out against Manbij by the international coalition
United Nations
Security CouncilS/2016/588
Distr.: General
7 July 2016
English
Original: ArabicIdentical letters dated 1 July 2016 from the Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council
On instructions from my Government, and further to our previous letters regarding the attacks carried out by the so-called international coalition against civilians, infrastructure and economic installations in the Syrian Arab Republic, I should convey to you the following information.
Since the start of the so-called operation to liberate Manbij, the so-called international coalition has carried out daily air strikes against that city. The majority of those air strikes have caused death and injury to civilians, but no casualties among the terrorists of Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant. A large number of civilian homes were destroyed by those air strikes, along with the Hilwaniyah, Ghandurah, Dadat and Arab Hasan bridges, which link the areas of Jarabulus and Manbij; the consumer products company warehouse; Ghassaniyah School; the grain silos; and the sugar factory at Maskanah.
The Syrian Arab Republic reiterates its position regarding counter-terrorism, which it has set out in identical letters addressed to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council, including the letter issued under the symbol A/68/984-S/2014/642.
The Syrian Arab Republic once again calls for an immediate cessation of such violations and reiterates that it has the right to demand compensation from the States of the so-called international coalition for their deliberate destruction of Syrian infrastructure and service, industrial, production and gas installations.
I should be grateful if the present letter could be issued as a document of the Security Council.
(Signed) Bashar Ja'afari

Permanent Representative
