Russia uses Deir Ezzor airbase to continue fight against ISIS
After more than one year of forced stoppage, the recently-liberated Deir Ezzor airbase returns to its full operational mode in the fight against the Islamic State in eastern Syria.
Footage posted recently on social media clearly shows 4 Russian Kamov Ka-50 attack helicopters - aka Black Shark - operating from inside the airbase.
The airfield - which has been renovated and reconditioned following its liberation last September - will be extensively used by the Syrian as well as Russian air force to carry out airstrikes against the Islamic State in the country's east.
Russia is backing up a full-scale offensive launched months ago by the Syrian forces to expel the terror organization from its last strongholds in the oil-rich Deir Ezzor province.
The city's airfield - which sustained a years-long stifling blockade imposed by the Islamic State - has been out of service since ISIS jihadists took over the nearby Thardeh Mountains following a US airstrike on Syrian Army positions in September 2016.
