Battle for Deir Ezzor reaches tipping point as ISIL breaks through Syrian Army lines
The Islamic State (ISIL) launched a another powerful offensive in the Deir Ezzor Governorate last night that targeted the Syrian Arab Army's (SAA) positions around the Panorama area located west of the provincial capital.
ISIL began the assault by storming the Syrian Arab Army's defenses at the Panorama School; this would result in a fierce battle that would ensue for a short period of time before the government forces withdrew from the site.
Following the capture of the Panorama School, the Islamic State shifted their attention to Tal Umm Abboud, where they managed to break-through the Syrian Arab Army's front-line positions and capture most of the hilltop late last night.
While clashes are still ongoing at Tal Umm Abboud, another Islamic State force has captured a number of points near the strategic Panorama Roundabout.
The Russian Air Force has conducted nonstop airstrikes over western Deir Ezzor since ISIL launched their assault; however, they have yet to slow the terrorist group down, as they continue their push towards the provincial capital's southern gates.
