Syrian Army rapidly advancing in western Palmyra as ISIS abandons several sites

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) began a large-scale offensive in the western countryside of Palmyra last night, targeting the area northeast of the T-4 Military Airport and east of the strategic city of Quraytayn.

Led by the 800th Battalion of the Republican Guard and Shaheen Group of the Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army managed to liberate a large chunk of territory around the abandoned military base north of the T-4 Airport.

This successful attack paved the way for the Syrian Arab Army to storm the Jazal Mountains for the first time since they lost this imperative site in December.

So far, there has been no reported gains from the Jazal front, despite the Syrian Arab Army's rapid advance at several other axes.

The first phase of this offensive requires the Syrian Arab Army to reach the gas fields in northeastern Homs; once this is accomplished, they will move onto the second phase, which is liberating these sites.
