Massive explosion reported in Syrian coastal city with large Russian military presence

Minutes ago, a massive explosion reportedly rocked Jableh in southern Latakia, marking the first time in several months this coastal city has been the target of a terrorist attack.

According to an Al-Masdar field correspondent in Latakia, the explosion took place at the Municipal Football Stadium in one of Jableh's most popular districts.

The explosion near the Municipal Football Stadium was a result of a car bomb placed by an unknown group, the field correspondent added.

Several casualties have been reported; however, the death toll is still unknown at this time.

Jableh is located near Russian military's primary base (Hmaymim Military Airport) in Syria.
