Putin signs law about Russia's eternal presence in Syria
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed the law on the ratification of the agreement on the deployment of units of Russia's Air Force in Syria.
According to the website of the Russian President, this law ratifies the agreement between the governments of the Russian Federation and the Syrian Arab Republic on the deployment of an aviation group of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Syria indefinitely. The agreement was signed in Damascus on August 26, 2015.
According to the law, the Hmeymim airbase in Latakia and its infrastructure can be used at no cost for Russia.
The law was passed by the State Duma and subsequently approved by the Federation Council.
According to the document, the units of the Russian Air Force will be deployed on the territory of Syria at the request from the Syrian side.
Noteworthy, Washington does not exclude attacks on Syrian government forces ignoring Russia's rigid position on the issue.
