Meeting of Syrian Support Group underway in Vienna
The meeting of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) on settling the crisis in the country has kicked off in Austria's Vienna.
The sides are expected to discuss the establishment of an interim government in Syria, Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steheinmeier said ahead of the consultations of the ISSG that consists of Russia, the Arab League countries, the European Union, China, Iran, Turkey, the United Nations and the United States.
"Under the UN auspices today we should suggest how the interim government will look like and define the basis for that," he said. The discussion will be held on strengthening ceasefire in Syria and improving the humanitarian situation around Aleppo.
Russia's delegation at talks is led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The Russian top diplomat arrived in the Austrian capital on Monday. He held talks with US Secretary of State John Kerry and representatives of several groups of Syria's opposition. Lavrov also took part in the meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs on resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Ahead of the ISSG meeting on Tuesday morning, Lavrov held consultations with Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif.
