There were no flights over allegedly attacked refugee camp in Syria — Russian military
Neither Russian, nor any other aircraft made any flights in the area of the refugee camp near the Sarmad community in Syria on May 4 and 5, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov told the media.
"We've closely studied the objective air space monitoring data for May 4 and 5, 2016. Neither Russian nor any other aircraft were flying over Sarmad," Konashenkov said.
Earlier, UN Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Stephen O'Brien said an air strike against a refugee camp in Idlib province, northern Syria, left at least 30 people dead and more than 80 injured.
The Syrian army's command denies its planes might have been responsible. The White House, too, has said that neither US Air Force or international coalition planes might have attacked the camp.
According to Konashenkov, the refugee camp in the Syrian province of Idlib could have been shelled from multiple rocket launchers, which the Jebhat al-Nusra terrorist group is using in the area.
He said the photos of the refugee camp - which have appeared in social networks - did not show any bomb craters or other signs pointing to an air strike.
"Judging from the nature of destruction seen on the photos and video recordings, the refugee camp could be attacked, intentionally or by mistake, from a multiple artillery rocket launcher, which the Jebhat al-Nusra terrorist group has been actively using in the area," Konashenkov said.
He added that reports about the refugee camp attack had appeared almost simultaneously with the start of a concert by the Mariinsky theater symphony orchestra under the baton of maestro Valery Gergiyev in Palmyra on Thursday. He said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had posted no report of an air strike, which was actively quoted by the media, on its website. "There was just one entry in Facebook, with no time or date of the air strike, which a Reuters correspondent, who for some unknown reason turned out to be in Lebanon, which neighbors on Syria, saw and promptly distributed around the globe," Konashenkov went on to say.
