Russian diplomat: Syrian army to take counter steps to prevent blockade of Aleppo

It is not ruled out that the situation around Syria's Aleppo may further deteriorate as jihadists are seeking to block the city forcing the Syrian army to take response steps, Russian Ambassador to Syria Alexander Kinshchak told TASS on Sunday.

"The situation in Aleppo remains very complicated. It is not ruled out that it might further deteriorate, which cannot but be alarming," he said.

In his words, fierce fighting between the Syrian army and militants are now taking place for the city of Al-Eis located between Aleppo, Hama and Homs. "If militants block the road it will entail a blockage of several hundred thousands of civilians in Aleppo," he said. "So, the army will spare no effort to take counter steps.".
