Russian forces make airstrikes on 472 terrorist facilities in Syria over past 2 days
Aircraft of the Russian aviation group in Syria have made 141 sorties over the past two days and delivered airstrikes on 472 terrorist facilities in the country, spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry Igor Konashenkov said on Monday.
"Aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces have made 141 sorties and delivered airstrikes on 472 terrorist facilities in the provinces of Aleppo, Damascus, Idlib, Latakia, Hama, Homs, Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor," he said.
According to him, over the past two days the Russian aviation group continued active additional reconnaissance of targets and delivering airstrikes on separate facilities of terrorist groups operating in Syria.
He added that all the Russian warplanes safely returned to the Hmeimim airbase after their combat missions.
IS suffers heaviest losses in Deir ez-Zor, Raqqah, Aleppo over weekend
In Konashenkov's words, terrorists in Syria over the past two days have sustained the heaviest losses in three provinces: Deiz ez-Zor, Raqqah and Aleppo.
The Russian air group's missile and bombing strikes inflicted the most serious losses on terrorist gangs in the area of Serakab, Idlib province, and Qalaat al-Madiq, Hama province.
"Most gangs have quit positions in these areas in defiance of threats from their warlords and been getting rid themselves of Islamic State clothes, symbols and emblems and trying to mix with the local population," Konashenkov said. Islamic State is outlawed in Russia as a terrorist organization.
Konashenkov said that in the area of Aleppo Russian air strikes had wiped out the terrorist forces' control system. The terrorists are disorganized and have been retreating into the areas still under their control trying to consolidate themselves there.
Objective monitoring indicates high effectiveness and considerable losses the militants have sustained in the whole territory of Syria after last week's air strikes, Konashenkov said.
Russian military operation against Islamic State
Russian aircraft have been delivering airstrikes against facilities of the Islamic State terrorist organization in Syria since September 30 at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
The Federation Council, the upper house of Russia's parliament, convened on September 30 to approve President Putin's request for the use of the country's armed forces in Syria against the Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist groupings.
On the same day, Russia's Air and Space Force started to deliver the first pinpointed air strikes against the militants' positions. The Russian aviation grouping comprises more than 50 aircraft and helicopters, including the Sukhoi Su-34 and Su-24M bombers, Su-25 attack aircraft, Su-30SM fighters and Mil Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters.
Also, overnight to October 7, the Caspian Flotilla ships delivered a massive strike on the IS objectives in Syria, using Kalibr NK shipborne cruise missiles.
The Russian authorities have said on many occasions that Russia's armed forces would not take part in any ground operation in Syria.
Russia's air force has delivered over 4,000 missile and bomb strikes against terrorist facilities since the start of its operation in Syria, Chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov said on November 17.
"Over the past 48 days, the Russian air grouping has performed 2,289 sorties and delivered 4,111 missile and bomb strikes against major infrastructure facilities and the concentrations of the militants' armor and personnel," he said.
"During the combat operations, 562 control points, 64 terrorist training camps, 64 arms and ammunition production facilities and other objectives have been destroyed," the chief of the Russian General Staff said.
The Russian military said they would focus airstrikes on the oil production, processing and transportation facilities that are under the control of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group. The Russian Army General Staff announced the beginning of Russian aircraft "free hunt" for oil tank trucks of terrorists. Russian Defense Minister, General Sergei Shoigu said last week that the terrorists were losing $1.5 million daily due to the Russian airstrikes.
