Russian forces destroy 448 terrorist facilities in Syria over 3 days - Defense Ministry
Russian Aerospace Forces have made 137 sorties over last three days and delivered airstrikes at 448 infrastructure facilities of terrorists in Syria, Russian Defense Ministry official spokesman Igor Konashenkov told journalists on Monday.
"Over the last three days, Russian jets made 137 sorties in the Syrian Arab Republic and destroyed 448 facilities of terrorist infrastructure in the provinces of Aleppo, Damascus, Idlib, Latakia, Raqqa, Hama and Homs," Konashenkov said.
He stressed that "all Russian jets have returned to the Hmeimim aerodrome after completing combat tasks."
In particular, Russian warplanes destroyed a Jabhat al-Nusra repair workshop for armored vehicles in the Hama province. Major arms caches belonging to Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists in Syria's provinces of Raqqah and Homs were destroyed as well.
"A Su-34 bomber destroyed two munitions depots belonging to Islamic State terrorist groups near the city of Raqqah. Objective monitoring data confirmed the destruction of these facilities," he said.
"A strike was delivered at a big Jabhat al-Nusra weapons and munitions depot in the vicinity of the town of Mheen in the Homs province. Two depots held handguns, large-caliber machineguns, grenade launchers and munitions. These weapons were meant for gunmen reaching Syria from abroad," Konashenkov said. "I would like to stress that information about this facility was referred to us by representatives of the Syrian opposition."
"Objective monitoring data confirmed complete destruction of the depots with everything they had inside in the Russia air strike," he said.
Warplanes have also destroyed a munitions warehouse of the Islamic State that contained makeshift unguided missiles the terrorists had been using to bombard the residential areas of the Syrian capital Damascus.
"In the area of Mont Mgar, Damascus Province, the Islamic State's warehouse of unguided missiles was destroyed," Konashenkov said.
"That warehouse had regularly supplied militants with unguided missiles that were used to systematically bombard the residential areas of Damascus," Konashenkov said.
Besides, a Sukhoi Su-24 bomber has destroyed a big Jabhat al-Nusra control center in Syria's Idlib province.
"A big Jabhat al-Nusra control center was destroyed in a Zerba suburb. The center was set up in a span of the past three weeks and well camouflaged. It was used to coordinate illegal armed groups acting in Idlib and Aleppo," he said.
A field camp of the Jabhat al-Nusra group was also destoryed in the Aleppo province.
"A field camp of one of the armed gangs of the Jebhat al-Nursa group has been destroyed near the village of Quayres al-Sharqi (Aleppo province)," Konashenkov said.
According to him, direct hits from air bombs destroyed the camp's infrastructure and four all-terrain vehicles equipped with heavy machine guns.
Russian Aerospace Forces started a military operation against the Islamic State terrorist group (which is banned in Russia) in the Syrian territory at the request of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on September 30. The air group in Syria includes more than 50 warplanes, including Su-34 and Su-24M bombers; Su-25 assault aircraft; Su-30SM fighter jets as well as Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters. The Russian Navy is also involved in the military operation. The warships of the Russian Caspian flotilla delivered a massive cruise missile strike from the Kalibr-class sea-based missile system on the night to October 7.
