Russian aircraft in Syria attack 60 terrorist facilities over past day – Defense Ministry
Russian aircraft in Syria have carried out 55 sorties and attacked 60 terrorist facilities over the past day, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said Tuesday.
"After combat tasks were completed, all Russian aircraft returned to the Khmeimim airbase," Konashenkov told journalists.
He said strikes at terrorist facilities in the provinces of Hama, Latakia, Damascus, Idlib, Aleppo and Deir-ez-Zor are made by Su-24M bombers, Su-25SM attack aircraft and state-of-the-art Su-34 aircraft.
On Monday, Russian aircraft made 33 sorties against 49 facilities in five Syrian provinces.
Russian warplanes destroy 19 IS command posts in Syria over 24 hours
Konashenkov noted Russian Aerospace Force's air grouping in Syria have destroyed 19 command posts of the Islamic State terrorist organization in the past twenty-four hours.
"The air strikes have destroyed two ammunition depots, one plant for the production of ammunition and explosives and 30 firing positions and hardware concentration over the past twenty-four hours," the spokesman said.
The Russian warplanes also destroyed nine fortified areas located in underground facilities in the Hama province, the general said.
Large amount of Islamic State armored vehicles destroyed in Syria's Idlib province
According to the spokesman Russian warplanes have destroyed a large amount of Islamic State armored vehicles spotted by aerial reconnaissance vehicles in the Syrian province of Idlib.
"Aerial reconnaissance spotted a large amount of terrorists' armoured vehicle in the al-Ziyara area in the province of Idlib. After follow-up reconnaissance conducted by unmanned aerial vehicles, the command of the Russian air group took a decision to hit the above target," he said, adding that the pinpoint air strike destroyed three armoured infantry carriers and six Jeep cars armed with large-caliber machine guns.
Russian warplanes in Syria destroy communication hub of five terrorist groups in Deir ez-Zor province
Russian warplanes have also destroyed a command post and a communication hub that coordinated the operation of five terrorist groups in the Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor.
"A command post and a terrorist communication hub, which used to coordinate the activities of five terrorist groups in Deir ez-Zor province, have been destroyed. The facility was located in the terrorist-held buildings of the local postal service," General Konashenkov said adding that Su-34 planes had destroyed the facility.
Russian Aerospace Forces destroy mini plant producing rockets in Syria's Deir-ez-Zor
Russian Su-24 and Su-34 aircraft destroyed a command post of Islamic State terrorists in the Syrian province of Idlib and a mini plant producing rockets in the province of Deir-ez-Zor
"Near the inhabited locality of Qastun, the province of Idlib, a large militant base with a command post and a disguised ammunition depot was destroyed," Konashenkov said. "The facility was completely destroyed after the Su-24 aircraft dropped a high explosive bomb."
Besides, Russian aircraft destroyed a mini plant producing explosive devices and rockets near the locality of Hatla, the province of Deir-ez-Zor.
Russia's Aerospace Forces started delivering pinpoint strikes at facilities of the Islamic State terrorist organization in Syria on September 30. The air group comprises over 50 aircraft and helicopters, including Sukhoi Su-24M, Su-25SM, state-of-the-art Su-34 and Su-30SM aircraft. Hundreds of terrorist facilities have been hit by Russian aircraft.
On October 7, four missile ships of the Russian Navy's Caspian Flotilla fired 26 Kalibr cruise missiles (NATO codename Sizzler) at militants' facilities in Syria. On October 8, the Syrian army passed to a large-scale offensive.
Russia's Armed Forces act on a request from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The Russian Federation does not plan to take part in ground operations in Syria.
