Russian warplanes destroy IS bunker and terrorists' column in Hama and Aleppo provinces
Russian jets have destroyed a bunker with ammunition and a column of military vehicles of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization in the Syrian provinces of Hama and Aleppo, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said on Tuesday.
Russian airstrikes as of 12Oct15"A bunker with an ammunition depot was destroyed in the region of Al-Latamna in the Hama province. As a result of an airstrike delivered by a Su-24 bomber, the underground facility was completely destroyed," he said.
A Su-25 fighter jet also attacked a terrorists' column with fuel and equipment. "Among destroyed objects were a gasoline tanker, three trucks with ammunition and two accompanying vehicles equipped with heavy machine guns," Konashenkov said.
According to the defense ministry, Russian jets made 88 sorties and delivered airstrikes at 86 facilities in the provinces of Raqqa, Hama, Idlib, Latakia and Aleppo over the last 24 hours. Konashenkov noted that jets bombed command posts, field headquarters, ammunition depots, equipment positions, explosive manufacturing plants, field camps and bases.
Russia launches airstrikes in Syria
At the end of September , Russian Federation Council unanimously granted permission to the Russian president to use the nation's military force in Syria. Russia will use only its Air Force in Syria against Islamic State (IS) and other terrorist groups upon the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad, Kremlin chief of staff Sergey Ivanov said, stressing that no ground troops will be sent.
Russian Aerospace Defense Forces started delivering targeted strikes against IS facilities on Wednesday, September 30. Modernized Su-24M and Su-25 fighter jets are deployed in the aviation unit of Russia's Aerospace Defense Forces formed in Syria, Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov told journalists on Thursday. He stressed that all strikes were made after air reconnaissance and update of data obtained from the Syrian army headquarters. Aircraft armaments were not used to hit civil infrastructure facilities or areas near them.
