Syria's opposition coalition insists on Bashar al-Assad's resignation at talks in Russia
The National Coalition of Syrian Opposition and Revolutionary Forces believes that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad can no longer head the country in the transitional period, which is supposed to end the Syrian crisis, Khaled Khoja, the national coalition's head, said after meeting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Thursday.
"We see the transitional period without Bashar al-Assad," he said.
At the same time, Khaled Khoja said the just-ended negotiations at Russia's Foreign Ministry on a settlement in Syria were fruitful and the delegation of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces was able to feel the flexibility of Russia's position.
"The talks were fruitful, we managed to achieve understanding regarding the transitional period, which was the main theme of the meeting," he said. "We felt certain flexibility of Russia's stance. We are to have more meetings in the future."
