Three Russian nationals suspected of IS membership detained in Turkey
Three Russian nationals suspected of membership in the extremist group Islamic State (IS) have been detained in Turkey, Haberler.com news portal said on Monday.
According to Haberler, the men were detained in the Adana Province in southern Turkey.
Turkey's General Staff reported on its website that on August 9, "three foreigners suspected of being IS members were detained by gendarmes in the Adana province." The General Staff did not provide details about citizenship of suspected IS militants. However, the Milliyet newspaper reported that "they are Russian nationals and they are currently being questioned."
Russian embassy not yet notified about detention
The Turkish authorities have not yet informed Russian diplomats about detaining three Russian nationals, acting press secretary of the Russian Embassy in Ankara Alexadner Leshukov told TASS on Monday.
"For now, no official reports were received by the embassy on this issue from the Turkish Foreign Ministry," Leshukov said adding that diplomats will request information from the Turkish authorities if necessary.
