Syrian opposition proposes setting up Supreme Human Right Council in war-torn country

Representatives of the Syrian opposition participating in the consultations in Moscow have proposed to form the Supreme Human Rights Council in the country, the oppositions' official statement said on Wednesday.

The opposition is expected to present the final text of the document later today at a meeting with the Syrian governmental delegation.

On Tuesday, a representative of the Democratic Tribune of Syria movement Samir Aita told TASS about the development of the document. "There is a common document that includes different elements, including political and humanitarian issues. This is a big progress," Aita said.

"The opposition representatives also agreed that they will be able to make remarks on the document at a meeting with the governmental organization on April 8," he added.

The document states that the Geneva communique from June 30, 2012 is "a basis for political settlement." Among the points outlined in the document are ceasing persecution of civilians and violence, releasing all political prisoners, providing humanitarian aid in accordance with the UN Security Council Resolution 2139. The opposition also calls for cancelling censorship, lifting the economic blockade and anti-Syrian sanctions.
