Moscow hopes for fair level of delegations at inter-Syrian talks -- Lavrov
Moscow hopes for a fair level and appropriate composition of delegations of the forthcoming inter-Syrian conference, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday.
"I'd rather not make any far-reaching assessments now," he said. "Let's wait and see who will be ready to come to Moscow in reality and who will come here in the final run."
"At any rate, our impression from contacts with various groups of the (Syrian) opposition and with the states where these groups are operating - including Syria itself, of course - tells us there is an understanding that rationality is an essential part of a meeting of this kind," Lavrov said.
"Those who will take last-minute decisions to abstain from the conference will obviously lose in what concerns their positions in the process of negotiations, and that's why we hope for a fair level of participation and composition of delegations," he said.
The task of combating international terrorism is an absolute priority now, Lavrov stressed.
"The agreement has been reached to continue interaction, including in the UN, during the discussion of crises in other regions of the world," Lavrov said. "Iraq, Syria and the task of combating international terrorism in general are absolute priorities at present," he said.
