Syrian jets raid Lebanon's border town
Syrian fighter jets shelled Tuesday the outskirts of the Lebanese town of Arsal in the eastern Bekaa region on Tuesday, the Lebanese army said in a statement.
The National News Agency later reported that the shelling targeted armed groups in the Wadi al-Zamrani and Ajram areas on the outskirts of Arsal, adding that seven people were wounded in the strikes, and were later transported to a local hospital.
Al-Jadeed TV later reported that five of the injured are Lebanese, while the rest two are Syrian nationals, one of whom is in critical condition.
Over the past two days, Arsal and the Syrian region of Qalamoun have been witnessing fierce clashes between members of Hezbollah and Syrian militants from the "Al Nusra Front," as well as other Islamist fundamentalists.
Ever since the Syrian revolt erupted in March 2011, Arsal has served as a key conduit for refugees and rebels opposing the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
