Turkey's border crossing with Syria to remain closed after clashes
Turkey's Customs and Trade Minister Hayati Yazici said Monday that the border crossing with Syria will remain closed for a while in light of last week's clashes.
The Akcakale Gate was closed Thursday after clashes erupted between nearly 1,000 Syrians, who attempted to enter Turkey, and Turkish border police. The incident left one policeman dead and six others wounded.
"These measures are only temporary. We will see that if the measures would continue for 10 days or a month," Yazici told reporters.
He said the Turkish security forces and intelligence officials are working to find the suspects responsible for the killing of the Turkish police officer.
