Syrian troops regain control of central town in Aleppo
The Syrian army's general command said Sunday that the army has wrested back control over the central town of Mork and repulsed an armed groups' attack against an airbase in the northern province of Aleppo.
In a statement carried by the state-run SANA news agency, the general command said armed groups attacked on Sunday morning an airbase at the Sufaira town in Aleppo with rockets, mortars and machine guns, but the base's troops repulsed the attack and killed large numbers of the assailants.
The general command also said that the troops were still purging the surroundings of the international airport of Aleppo, adding that many armed rebels were killed and wounded.
In the central province of Hama, the troops wrested back control over Mork town and the dismantled more than 150 explosive devices, the statement said.
The army also continued operations in Deir Balba area in the province of Homs and Daraya suburb of the capital Damascus, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, the army's general command stressed commitment to preserve the security of the country and the citizens and to continue "squashing" the armed groups and their remnants "to cleanse Syria of their evil."
