NATO brings Europe to a total security crisis, says Russia's CSTO envoy
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has brought Europe to a total security crisis and the Euro-Atlantic security concept has failed, Russian Permanent Representative at the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Viktor Vasilyev said in an interview with the 'Allies. CSTO' magazine on Monday.
"NATO exploits the situation, expanding its presence in Eastern and Central Europe, as well as in the Baltic states. Additional offensive systems are being deployed there, military infrastructure is being improved, and the intensity of joint drills is increasing," the envoy pointed out.
"As a result, the principles of equal and indivisible security, and the refusal to strengthen one's own security at the expense of the security of other states, have been violated. We can state that a complete crisis in this sphere is unfolding in Europe, while the Euro-Atlantic security concept has simply failed," he said.
A large-scale confrontation and the course toward escalation are the most serious and regrettable trends in this regard. In addition, the West is trying to preserve its global dominance and contain the development of sovereign states, Vasilyev added.
"The obvious manifestation of this trend is clear to us in the wake of the situation around Ukraine. Especially, outspoken hawks directly state that it is necessary to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia on the battlefield, as this is crucial, as they claim, for the future of the world order. Pro-Western politicians assert that they want to see the world solely in its unipolar configuration, functioning by their rules," the Russian envoy said.
