Russian PM Medvedev: Tragedy in Paris requires from all uniting in fight against extremism

Russia's Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev offered deep condolences to the French counterpart Manuel Valls following the many victims in the series of terrorist attacks in Paris.

"We share the sorrow and pain of the French people. Terrorist criminals do not and cannot have excuses. The tragedy in Paris requires from us all uniting in fight against extremism, to provide a firm and decisive response to terrorist raids," Medvedev said, asking to offer condolences and support to families of the victims and also wished soonest recovery to the injured.

"Terrorist attacks in France is a crime which is monstrous in its cynicism and cruelty. Innocent people were the victims there. This is exactly the objective the murderers had - to cause pain and fear. No religious or political reasons, they are appealing to, never justify them. This is terrorism. Terrorism, against which we all shall continue fighting," he wrote on his Facebook page.

A series of terrorist acts took place at various venues in Paris Friday evening with the use of automatic weapons and explosive devices. According to the city prosecutor, they were carried out nearly simultaneously at six various places of the city. Overall, at least 120 people were killed. Hostages were taken in the Bataclan concert hall where 1,500 people gathered for a rock concert. The president declared the state of emergency in the country and closure of state borders.
