Foreign Minister: Kazakhstan hails Russia-Turkey rapprochement
Improvement of relations between Russia and Turkey is viewed positively by Kazakhstan, Kazakh Foreign Minister, Erlan Idrissov, told reporters on Wednesday.
"Russia and Turkey are important strategic partners for Kazakhstan. We are enthusiastic about the improvement of relations between Russia and Turkey," Idrissov said commenting on the results of the talks between the Russian and Turkish leaders in St. Petersburg.
The minister noted that a thaw in relations between Moscow and Ankara "has been observed since Erdogan sent a letter to Vladimir Putin." "They had a telephone conversation, the two countries' foreign ministers met, so the meeting in St. Petersburg was a step in the right direction, and we welcome such scenario," he said.
Idrissov recalled that Kazakhstan's leader Nursultan Nazarbayev contributed to patching up relations between Moscow and Ankara. "Our leader, considering Kazakhstan's close relations with both Russia and Turkey and his good relations with the Russian and Turkish leaders, or course, used this to contribute in some way to improving relations between Russia and Turkey after the famous incident with the warplane," he added.
