Norway offers to deliver salmon to Russia from its plants in Chile, Faroe Islands

Norway's Marine Harvest ASA, largest world artificially-bred salmon producer, intends to deliver salmon to Russia from its plants in Chile and Denmark's Faroe Islands.

"Russia decided to ban sea food import from the United States, the European Union, Canada, Australia and Norway for a year. For Marine Harvest this means that salmon produced in Chile and Faroe Islands can still be imported to Russia. We are working on redirecting flows of our produce, observing new market rules," the company said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said that Russian food embargo imposed on August 7 already resulted in a higher load on Russian processing enterprises, particularly those producing cheese and milk. Meanwhile, he acknowledged that Russia failed to replace fully Norwegian salmon for such a brief period of time.

According to Marine Harvest estimates, Russia accounted for 7% of world consumption of artificially-bred Atlantic salmon that has made about 140 thousand tonnes for the past year, meanwhile, Norway and Britain coming under Russian retaliatory sanctions delivered 100 thousand tonnes to the country for this period of time.
