NATO defense ministers to discuss location of forces in East Europe on June 14-15 — source

NATO defense ministers will discuss "number, location and composition of multinational battalions of the Alliance in Eastern Europe" at the meeting in Brussels on June 14-15, a diplomatic source from the mission of one of NATO's member countries in Brussels told TASS on Monday.

"The discussion at the ministerial meeting will be preliminary, ahead of the NATO summit in Warsaw on July 8-9, where the heads of Alliance's member states will make a final decision on deploying multinational battalions on eastern borders on a rotational basis," the source said.

This topic was already discussed at the meeting of NATO foreign ministers on May 18. According to military sources in NATO member countries, the North Atlantic Alliance plans to put up four battalions - a force of about 2,000 troops - in Poland and the Baltic States in response to Russia's increased military activities.
