Russian government approves simpler citizenship rules for native Russian speakers
Russian government has approved the procedure enabling simpler acquisition of Russian citizenship with certain preconditions on Thursday, the government's press office reported on Friday.
Foreigners in question are those ready to quit their citizenship or who have none, have a good command of Russian language and regularly use it in family, society, culture and other spheres, whose direct relatives or who themselves lived in Russia, including territories of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union, said the press office.
According to Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, classifying people as native Russian speakers will be a task of a special commission. Those who pass the interview will receive a special Russian visa and will be even able to obtain a residence permit bypassing temporary residence permit.
The bill due to be soon presented to the State Duma also proposes to reduce time of consideration of naturalization applications from six to three months for people partaking in the state program supporting voluntary migration of Russian people living abroad.
