Russian Foreign Ministry criticizes Chisinau's policy of sanctions against media
Russia is strongly critical of the Moldovan authorities' policies for restricting the operation of mass media and the imposition of sanctions on journalists, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Earlier on Friday, a correspondent of the international news agency Russiya Segodnya, Timur Khursandov, was denied permission to enter Moldova at Chisinau's airport without explaining the reasons. On January 21, a correspondent of the television channel Life News, Kirill Olkov, and cameraman of the REN TV television channel, Alexander Malyshev, were prohibited from entering the country. A TASS photographer, who arrived in Chisinau on January 21, had to take the earliest available next flight home. The Russian citizen was told he could not enter the country because he worked for a news agency. "We categorically condemn the Moldovan authorities' policy to restrict the activity of mass media and take sanctions against journalists," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"We are expecting proper evaluation by the special organizations concerned, whose duty is to react to countries' violations of international commitments in the mass media field."
