Lawmaker: Russia's stance on UN resolution on Libya in 2011 was wrong
Alexey Pushkov, the head of the Russian State Duma Committee for Foreign Affairs, said on Wednesday that Russia's stance on the UN Security Council resolution on Libya in 2011 was a mistake.
"I believe it was a mistake," Pushkov said in an interview aired by the Kommersant FM radio station when a listener asked him if Russia's stance on the UN Security Council resolution on Libya in 2011, when Russia abstained from voting, was a mistake.
"That mistake was caused by desire to prolong an illusion of positive dynamics in relations with the United States," the Russian lawmaker said explaining that the two countries were in the process of resetting bilateral relations at that time.
"I believe that no genuine reset has ever taken place. There was no need to vote in that way for the sake of an illusion," Pushkov added.
