China: Russia enjoys advantages in new Silk Road project

Russia is an important participant that enjoys significant advantages in the project of the new Silk Road economic zone, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Li Hui told Sputnik.

"Many countries are showing interest in the economic zone of the Silk Road. Agreements and memorandums were concluded on bilateral and multilateral levels. Russia, as the largest neighbor and a strategic partner of China is an important participant in the construction of the Silk Road, has significant advantages," said the diplomat.

According to the official, China and Russia share "unique geographical proximity and unique political mutual trust."

The head of the People's Republic of China put forward the idea of building the new Silk Road in 2013. The project is said to connect China with Europe and strengthen cooperation with Asia and Africa.
