Kazakhstan’s top diplomat says Caspian states reach consensus on all Caspian Sea issues
The five Caspian states (Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Azerbaijan) have been able to reach consensus on all issues related to the use of the Caspian Sea, Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov said at the beginning of the meeting of the Caspian states’ top diplomats.
"The parties have been able to reach consensus on all issues concerning cooperation on the Caspian Sea. The draft Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea submitted for signature by the presidents testifies to that," he said. "We have reached this day with consolidated approaches to the limits of sovereignty, sovereign and exclusive rights of the Caspian states."
Abdrakhmanov called the upcoming signing of the Convention at the August 12 summit a historic event. "It is important to note that, along with the draft, a legal base, which consists of nine multilateral agreements, has been created," he added. "Tomorrow it will be supplemented by seven new agreements."
The fifth Caspian summit will be held in Aktau on August 12. The Caspian states’ foreign ministers gathered in that city to discuss the completion of preparations for the meeting.
