Libyan’s Demand NATO to End Casualties
Around one hundred Libyans rallied outside the Hungarian embassy in Tripoli protesting against NATO air strikes that have killed dozens of civilians in a village east of Tripoli, calling for an end to the air attacks on August 11.
The protesters gathered to hand over a letter to the ambassador addressed to the U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon calling on him to intervene to stop on civilian target air strikes.
Ibrahim Al Majeri, the head of the Libyan Doctors Union said, "Mr. Ban Ki-moon, U.N. Secretary General, we are the families of the victims who were killed by NATO air strikes on Majar village, which killed 85 martyrs, most of them were children and women, we are appealing to you to take a firm stand against these crimes which NATO commits everyday"
On August 9, Libyan officials said that 85 civilians had been killed in a NATO strike in Majar village east of the coastal city of Zlitan, but the alliance countries believe it hit a legitimate military target.
A strike causing large numbers of civilian casualties could weaken NATO nations support to overthrow Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
The Libyan government said the dead included 33 children, 32 women and 20 men.
