NATO and Spain urge military pressure on Libya

NATO and Spain on Thursday stressed the need to maintain military, political and economic pressure on the Libyan regime of leader Moamer Gaddafi, DPA reported.

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero also pledged continuing support for the Libyan Interim Transitional National Council in its attempts to topple Gaddafi, government sources said after the two held talks in Madrid.

In a speech given to the Spanish senate, Rasmussen expressed trust that the Gaddafi regime would fall.

"Gaddafi your time is over, you must go. It's over," Rasmussen said.

NATO's military intervention in Libya had made "quite a bit of progress" since it began three months ago, the secretary-general said.
