Libya opposition to reject African Union’s peace plan

The Libyan opposition has warned that it will reject the African Union’s ceasefire plan if Muammar Gaddafi or his sons remain in power. This came in a statement in Benghazi by the opposition spokesman Abdullah Shamiya.

Earlier today, the opposition demanded a withdrawal of the Gaddafi troops and respect for the freedom of expression. A delegation of the African Union has arrived in Benghazi from Tripoli and has had its settlement plan for Libya approved there.

The plan provides for a ceasefire, the ensuring of humanitarian aid deliveries and the start of a dialogue between the warring factions.
