4 killed in suicide bombing in western Libya

Four security personnel were killed and 21 others injured Wednesday in a suicide bomb attack on a court complex in the western Libyan city of Misrata, medical and security sources said.

Three unidentified gunmen, suspected of being affiliated with Islamic State (IS), attacked the court complex when a number of IS militants arrived for trial, sources told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The court complex contains all the courts in the city, as well as the offices of public and sub-district prosecutors. The IS militants captured during confrontations with government forces in the city of Sirte were supposed to be tried in the complex.

"Two of the attackers were killed in clashes with the guards of the complex, while the third blew himself up, killing four security personnel and injuring 21 others," the sources said.

Forces in Misrata, allied with Tripoli's UN-backed unity government, fought a seven-month fight against IS militants in nearby Sirte, and expelled them in December 2016.
