Tunisia, Italy reject military intervention in Libya
Tunisia and Italy stressed on Wednesday that the conflict in Libya can be only settled through dialogue and reconciliation, voicing rejection of any military intervention in the North African country.
It came during Tunisian Foreign Minister Taieb Baccouche's meeting with his Italian counterpart Paolo Gentiloni, who is currently visiting Tunisia.
"We cannot accept any division of Libya," said the top Italian diplomat in a press conference following the meeting.
"Italy is committed to respecting the decisions of the United Nations and to cooperating with all Western countries with interests in Libya, so that all efforts lead to a peaceful solution," he added.
The two ministers agreed that a military intervention is not a solution to the crisis in the North African country.
For his part, the Tunisian minister said that the ongoing conflict in Libya and the absence of the state allowed the spread of terrorism.
