Russia accuses NATO of increasing casualties in Libya
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday accused NATO of mounting the number of casualties during the civil war in Libya.
"The international community and our Western partners in the first place followed the path of supporting one side in the civil war. Perhaps, this side expressed the interests of the Libyan people, but at the cost of civilian casualties," Lavrov told a news briefing following talks with his Djibouti counterpart, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf.
Lavrov said the UN resolutions aimed at protecting Libyan civilians have worked in the opposite direction.
"We don't accept the claims from NATO that the bloc's intervention saved lots of lives. This is an attempt of wishful thinking," the top Russian diplomat said.
