U.S., partners continue airstrikes against IS in Syria, Iraq

U.S and partner nation military forces continued to attack the Islamic States (IS) forces in Syria over the past four days using bomber, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft to conduct 23 airstrikes, a statement of U.S. Central Command said on Monday.

Separately, U.S. and partner nation military forces conducted 18 airstrikes in Iraq during the same period, using attack, bomber, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft against IS terrorists, the statement said.

In Syria, the airstrikes conducted near Kobani, Dayr Zawr destroyed an IS-occupied building used as an ammunition stockpile. The airstrikes also damaged an IS command and control building, and five small IS units, nine IS fighting positions and two IS oil collection facilities.

In Iraq, the airstrikes near Bayji and Fallujah damaged five small IS units, an IS sniper position and three IS vehicles. The airstrikes near Mosul struck and Al Qaim destroyed five IS armed vehicles, three IS checkpoints and a small IS unit.

The strikes were conducted as part of Inherent Resolve, the operation to eliminate the terrorist group IS and the threat they pose to Iraq, the region and the wider international community, the statement said.

The destruction of IS targets in Syria and Iraq further limits the terrorist group's ability to project power and conduct operations, it added.

Coalition nations conducting airstrikes in Iraq include the U.S. , Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Coalition nations conducting airstrikes in Syria include the U.S., Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
