Defiant Qatar restores diplomatic ties with Iran
Qatar announced on Wednesday the return of its Ambassador to Tehran, less than a month after Saudi Arabia, along with three other Gulf states, cut ties with Doha in response to their links with Iran.
The brief post to the English-language Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs website was two sentences long:
The State of Qatar announced today that its ambassador to Tehran will return to exercise its diplomatic duties.
The State of Qatar expressed its aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran in all fields.
Doha's defiance in the face of Saudi demands, which included cutting back links with Iran, comes out of desperation as the isolated country has relied on Iran, Oman and Turkey for imports in the face of an embargo from the Saudi-led group.
