Egypt denounces Israeli attack on aid ships
Egypt strongly condemned on Monday the Israeli attack upon a flotilla of aid ships heading for Gaza to break the suffocating Israeli siege imposed on its people, Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.
"We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the human rights activists who lost their lives today in support of the Palestinian people and their just cause," ministry spokesman Hossam Zaki said.
Egypt calls for immediately lifting the siege and will continue its policies aiming at relieving the people in Gaza Strip and facilitate their crossing in and out, the official said.
Israeli forces on Monday attacked the international convoy of aid ships when attempting to stop the flotilla from reaching Gaza, killing up to 19 civilians, Israeli media reported.
The flotilla, originally made up of nine ships from Turkey, Britain, Ireland, Greece, Kuwait and Algeria, were carrying cement, water purification systems and wheelchairs. One of the ships had not arrived and two others had been damaged.
