Oil and gas projects in Russia play important role for Japan - Cabinet
Sakhalin-1 and Sakhalin-2 oil and gas projects are playing an important role for Japan that heavily depends on import of energy resources, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said on Monday.
"Sakhalin-1 and Sakhalin-2 projects are very important projects for our country, which depends on purchases of energy resources," Matsuno said. Implementation of sanctions against Russia due to the situation in Ukraine will take place further with consideration of priority for stable energy supplies to Japan, he said. At the same time, Matsuno repeated the position stated earlier by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida that Japan joins other members of the Group of Seven (G7) in the decision to abandon imports of Russian oil.
