BRICS leaders underline importance of further strategic partnership — ministry
Leaders of the BRICS countries have underlined the importance of further strategic partnership of the union, Russia's Foreign Ministry said after an informal meeting of the BRICS leaders on sidelines of the G20 summit in China's Hangzhou on Sunday.
"The leaders exchanged views on a wide range of important issues of the global politics, security, economy and global management, which cause common concerns," the ministry said. With the challenges to the global economic growth, the leaders stated the BRICS countries are facing new challenges to their economic growth, and thus agreed the economic growth of the BRICS countries will remain an important accelerator of the global economic growth.
"The leaders stressed importance of further strengthening of the union's strategic partnership, which is based on approaches of openness, solidarity, equality, mutual understanding, inclusivity and mutual cooperation," the Foreign Ministry said.
"The leaders thanked and supported the Chinese chairing of the Group of Twenty in 2016, and also expressed confidence regarding successful results of the summit in Hangzhou," the ministry said.
Adherence to fighting terrorism under UN auspices
BRICS countries heads of states confirmed they would fight terrorism in its all forms and manifestations in cooperation with other countries under the central role of the United Nations Organization, the Russian Foreign Ministry also said.
"The leaders have confirmed their sincere adherence to fighting terrorism in its all forms and manifestation with the central role of the UN," the ministry said.
"No terrorist attacks may have justifications for ideological, religious, political, race, ethnic or any other reasons," the Foreign Ministry said. "The BRICS leaders stressed it necessary to unite efforts at the global level in fighting terrorism in compliance with norms and approaches of the international law, including the UN Charter."
They "strongly condemned the heinous acts of terrorism, which undermine the global peace and security, social and economic stability. They expressed deep concerns and support for innocent victims in terrorist attacks and condemned the recent terrorist attacks in cities throughout the world."
Leaders of the five countries spoke about importance of international cooperation in fighting that threat and thus confirmed their adherence to development of cooperation between the BRICS member countries and other states, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
