Damascus' military command blasts killed 4 soldiers, injured 14

Four army soldiers were killed and 14 others were injured in the twin suicide bombings that rocked the military command headquarters in the capital Damascus earlier Wednesday, the state-TV said.

The 14 injured include civilians, too, the TV said.

Meanwhile, a Syrian military source said the twin blasts had been caused by two suicide car bombs.

The source, whose remarks were carried by the state-TV, gave no further details, but the state-TV aired a recording showing how the twin blasts took place with an interval of 10 minutes.

The brazen blasts left material damages and a number of injured guards, Syria's official media said.

The blasts left scenes of destruction and smouldering fire, followed by clashes between the Syrian army and armed rebels who tried to storm the military headquarters and the state TV but were confronted by the army, which has rendered them either killed or injured.

Activists' reports said the blasts killed many army officers, a claim that has been totally denied by the information ministry and military sources.

It comes as part of a series of endless violence and blasts that have engulfed the unrest-stricken country since last year.
