Russian-Ukrainian aircraft engine center opens in Moscow

Russia and Ukraine have set up an engineering centre in Moscow for the joint development and production of aircraft engines, President of the MOTOR-SICH joint-stock company in Zaporozhie region Vyacheslav Boguslaev told ARMS-TASS on Wednesday.

The center which is now being registered, he added, was established by MOTOR-SICH, Zaporozhie engine-building design bureau Ivchenko-Progress and Russian United Engine-Building Corporation which share it with 49 and 51 percent respectively.

The center's near-term plan is to lodge certification applications for newly designed aircraft engines. The sides will own certificates on a parity basis. Division will be determined on the basis of investments contributed by the parties, whereas distribution of spending for design and development works will be considered separately by the board of directors.

One of the factors that encouraged the parties to open a joint centre was that Moscow had forfeited its status of the capital of engine building due to the closing of many design bureaus, said Boguslaev.

"Our task is to set up a basis in Moscow out of the pieces of former experimental design bureaus, to create a Moscow cluster of this engineering centre," he said. "Our goal is to jointly create and manufacture new aircraft engines."

The United Engine-Building Corporation has chosen eight new Ukrainian-designed engines for their further certification and production at the engineering centre.
