Russia won't allow new Cold War: Lavrov

Russia has been doing everything to prevent its relations with the West from slipping into a new Cold War, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday.

"Following the United States' actions, the mood of confrontation has prevailed in the North Atlantic alliance. It has made an absolutely politicized decision on suspending cooperation on military and civilian matters. Effectively, all the projects have been frozen," Lavrov told a press conference here.

This is not Russia's choice and Moscow does not want and would not allow a new Cold War, the minister stressed.

He urged Russia's western partners to understand that the realization of global security is impossible through unilateral actions and pressing on partners.

"Western attempts to isolate Russia have been futile," said the diplomat.

Lavrov in particular called on the U.S. and European countries to resume equal dialogue on bilateral and international issues, including the Ukraine crisis.
