Russia's large anti-submarine ship leaves for Atlantic mission

The Vice-Admiral Kulakov large anti-submarine warfare ship has left the Northern Fleet's main base in Severomorsk for a long-distance mission in the Atlantic, Fleet spokesman Captain 1st Rank Vadim Serga said on Friday.

"The ship will sail to the Atlantic through the Barents Sea soon. On its way along the route, the ship's crew will practise improving its maritime skills and hold a number of ship defense exercises at sea. Planned flights of shipborne helicopters Ka-27 will be performed," the spokesman said.

"The Vice-Admiral Kulakov holds a leading place among the Northern Fleet's ships by the continuity of long-distance voyages. Last year, it stayed for eight and a half months in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, covering a distance of over 35,00 nautical miles and making 11 calls at ports of five countries," the spokesman said.
