Lavrov hopes talks with Algeria's Lamamra help finalize approaches to global issues

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov hopes that talks with his Algerian counterpart Ramtane Lamamra will help coordinate the two countries' approaches to international issues.

"This is our third meeting in six months, but the first one that takes place in Russia," Lavrov said in his opening remarks to the talks on Tuesday. "Our short meetings in New York and Montreux proved useful. Today's full-format talks will help assess the state of bilateral relations, compare and coordinate approaches to regional and international issues. The results of our talks will be made public at a news conference."

Lamamra, in turn, thanked Lavrov for the invitation to visit Moscow. "I want to congratulate your colleagues on this holiday - the Diplomatic Worker's Day. I am personally delighted with the Russian diplomacy and the contribution it has been making to international relations for many centuries."

"I am confident that yesterday, marking this holiday, you were able to sum up the results of last year that was especially active for your diplomacy that has achieved significant success," Lamamra said.
