Three suspected militants killed in Russia's Dagestan

Police in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Dagestan killed three suspected militants in the course of a special operation, a local police source told TASS on Wednesday.

According to the source, a group of suspected militants were discovered hiding in a trench shelter in a forested area of the republic's Kizilyurt district.

The moment they were discovered one part of them attempted to flee the scene while the other part opened fire on policemen. Three of the suspected militants were killed in return fire, the source said adding that police keeps searching those, who fled the scene.

Russia's law enforcement agencies have continued fighting militants in Dagestan for over 14 years since the battle phase of the second antiterrorist operation against Islamist separatists in the neighboring Chechnya came to an end in 2000. Attacks on security officials and civilians occur from time to time in Dagestan, Ingushetia and Kabardino-Balkaria.
