Russian government committee approves Russia-Cuba space exploration deal

The Russian government will consider a bill on ratification of Russian-Cuban intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in exploration and use of the outer space for peaceful purposes.

The governmental lawmaking committee has approved the document submitted by the Foreign Ministry and the Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos), the government official website government.ru said.

The agreement between Russia and Cuba should lay organizational and legal foundations for mutually beneficial cooperation in exploration and use of the outer space for peaceful purposes. "The agreement meets Russia's interests, including those related to the need to install stations of the GLONASS global navigation satellite system's differential correction and monitoring system in the Republic of Cuba," the Cabinet noted.

The document sets principles, standards and conditions required for development of bilateral relations in space activity, including protection of intellectual property rights, regulation of protection and exchange of different types of information, certification of end use and the procedure of operating protected products and technologies under export control on the territory of an importing country.
