Russian-Chinese naval exercise in Mediterranean ends


The Russian-Chinese naval manoeuvres Joint Sea 2015 in the Mediterranean have ended, and the exercise closing ceremony is held at the headquarters of the drills' joint command, Russian Navy spokesman Captain 1st Rank Igor Dygalo said on Thursday. The Russian and Chinese commanders of the drills - Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Vice Admiral Alexander Fedotenkov and his Chinese counterpart - Du Jingchen, deputy commander of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, hold the event.

"The Russian and Chinese navy men have displayed high professionalism, responsibility and sense of duty during the exercise events. The Joint Sea 2015 exercise has been special. It was conducted in the off-shore maritime zone and was full of drills to jointly respond to new threats and challenges in the World Ocean," Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief Viktor Chirkov said in a telegram addressed to the exercise participants. "I commend coordinated work of the ships' crews, efficient activity of the exercise commanders from the Russian and Chinese sides, the exemplary work of the joint command staff and joint troops group. I am confident that Russian-Chinese cooperation at sea will continue to contribute to peace and stability."

On Thursday, during the active phase of the Joint Sea 2015 manoeuvres in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, the joint task force of the two states completed the final drill of the exercise - gun practice at sea targets, drills with the use of the naval electronic warfare systems, throwing of depth charges at hypothetical submerged targets. The joint naval task force comprised the guided missile cruiser Moskva, the Ladny escort ship, the Samum hovercraft, two amphibious assault ships - the Alexander Shabalin and the Alexander Otrakovsky, the MB-31 salvage tug, as well as two Chinese frigates - the Linyi and the Weifang - and a Chinese logistics ship.
