19 militants, including chieftain, liquidated in Chechnya in 2015 — Kadyrov

Chechen law enforcers liquidated 19 members of terrorist underground, including a chieftain, in 2015, Ramzan Kadyrov, the Chechen Republic's head, said on Thursday.

"Manifestations of extremism and terrorism are being curbed. Nineteen militants, including a gang chieftain, were liquidated in 2015. Professional pre-emptive work is conducted with young people," Kadyrov told a board meeting of the republic's Interior Ministry in Grozny.

Twenty-three terrorists were liquidated in security operations in Chechnya in 2014.

According to Kadyrov, the number of particularly grave crimes decreased by almost a quarter last year. "In the past year, the number of particularly grave crimes decreased by almost 25%; the number of road accidents went down by 19%. The crime solving rate increased by 6.6%," Kadyrov said.

Alexander Savenkov, Russia's deputy interior minister, told the board meeting that terrorist activity had been on decline in Chechnya in 2015. "That did not happen on its own but was a result of decisive actions taken by the leadership of the Chechen Republic and its Interior Ministry," Savenkov said adding that Chechnya's crime detection rate exceeded 86%.

"It is the highest crime solving rate in Russia," Savenkov stressed.
